Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born in Compton, California, in 1987 and is now rightly considered one of the most influential performers on the rap scene.

However, in 2015 he reached new heights with the release of the transformative album To Pimp a Butterfly, which is rightly considered a groundbreaking record.

It made Kendrick Lamar a Grammy Award Winning artist as he picked up 11 nominations in 2016, winning for Best Rap Album. Of all his albums, it's considered his best.

The singles I, King Kunta, Alright, and The Blacker the Berry all did well in the charts.

Damn

In 2017 he released Damn, which was another commercial and critical hit, and Lamar's latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, was another worldwide success.

Black Panther

He recorded the hugely successful soundtrack to Black Panther in 2018 and worked with a string of top musicians on the project, including Khalid, Anderson Paak, Travis Scott, and The Weeknd.

It proved a huge hit and proved a cultural success, almost as much as the Marvel film itself.

The soundtrack also secured Kendrick Lamar an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song, All The Stars.

Pulitzer Prize

Kendrick Lamar has achieved massive critical success, and an illustration of his relevance and reach came in the form of a Pulitzer prize that he earned in 2017, the first non Jazz musician to win the prize for music.
