LCD Soundsystem History

LCD Soundsystem were formed in 2002 in Brooklyn, New York, by James Murphy and their self-titled debut album was released in 2005 and proved a commercial and critical success.

The record included singles including Disco Infiltrator, Tribulations and Daft Punk Is Playing at My House, all of which charted in the UK.

The Sound System released Sound of Silver in 200, which was their first to chart in the United States and went Gold in the United Kingdom.

Someone Great and All My Friends were successful singles from that release. At this stage, the group was beginning to make real inroads in the US and was already a well-regarded live act, performing regularly to large crowds worldwide.

2010's This is Happening took the band up a notch, breaking into the top ten in the US and selling well around the world. Pow Pow, Drunk Girls and I Can Change were released from that album.

The group elected to disband following a magical farewell concert at Madison Square Garden in 2011, which was covered in the documentary film Shut Up and Play the Hits. They returned to the studio in 2015, releasing Christmas Will Break Your Heart.

It took another seven years for the band to release their next album and American Dream proved a massive success, topping the US Billboard Album charts with the single Call The Police proving to be the band's highest charting release to date.

The group released a new single in 2022, with New Body Rhumba being a firm fan favourite.

LCD Soundsystem have sold millions of records and are a fantastic live band, with James Murphy being the beating heartbeat of the group. They have earned an array of accolades over the years, including winning the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for Tonite in 2018 and were also nominated for a prestigious Brit Award the same year.
