Brazil vs USA Copa America Tournament Record

Brazil were one of the founder nations in the Copa America in 1916 and won the tournament for the first time in 1919. Between 1949 and 1989, however, Brazil really struggled for form and failed to win a single title in that four-decade period.

That run came to an end in 1989 at a tournament they hosted, and then they really motored along between 1997 and 2007, winning four of the five titles on offer in that spell.

2019 was another triumphant campaign for Brazil, once again as hosts, as they eased past Peru 3-1, with Everton and Tottenham forward Richarlison among the goalscorers in the Copa America Final.

The United States have been a relatively successful addition to the Copa America set-up, with the Stars and Stripes twice reaching the Semi-Finals of the tournament.

In 1995 the USA waltzed through their group, beating Argentina 3-0 in the process, before downing Mexico in the Quarter-Finals. They were then felled by Brazil in the final four.

At the 2016 finals, the centenary celebrations of the Copa America, which were hosted in the United States, they did it again. This time, under head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, they edged past Ecuador in the Quarter-Finals before Argentina thumped them 4-0 in Houston, Texas.
