Diana Ross Biography

Diana Ross was born in March 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. By the age of 15, she had caught the attention of manager Milton Jenkins, who brought her in as part of an American girl group called The Supremes.

She would go on to perform with the band until 1970, during which time The Supremes had become one of the biggest groups in the world. Among their biggest hits were the legendary tracks Baby Love, Where Did Our Love Go, Stop In The Name of Love, You Can't Hurry Love, The Happening, Love Child, and Someday We'll Be Together, all of which were massive US number-one hits.

In 1970, she elected to leave her post as the lead singer of the band to start her solo career, which would prove to be a monumental success. Her debut single as a solo act, helmed by the famed record producer pairing of Ashley & Simpson, was Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand), which performed well.

Her second single, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, earned her a first solo number-one in the US and in 1973, she secured her second with Touch Me In the Morning.

Diana Ross was unstoppable as a hit machine during this period, with further smash hits coming in the form of Love Hangover, Last Time I Saw Him, Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To), and You Got It.
