Idles History

Idles were formed in 2009 in Bristol, and they released their debut EP, Welcome, in 2012. a second followed Meat before they released their debut album, Brutalism, in 2017. By this time, the band's lineup included Joe Talbot, Mark Bowen, Lee Kiernan, Adam Devonshire and Jon Beavis, and the record performed well from a critical perspective.

Joy as an Act of Resistance

The following year, they released their second studio album, Joy as an Act of Resistance, which went to number five in the UK and also did well across Europe. 2020's Ultra Mono went to the top of the UK Album charts and also did well in the United States, helping to garner exposure.

Tangk

Crawler followed in 2021, and in 2024, their album Tangk once again topped the UK charts and also broke into the top ten in Belgium, Germany and Ireland. Review after positive review followed and the group continue to attract popular approval from critics and fans alike.

In 2023, the band received their first-ever Grammy Award nominations, being nominated for both Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Album. They have also won Q Awards and been nominated for Brit Awards and NME Awards.
