Poland vs Austria History

Neither of these teams featured at the finals of the European Championship until 2008, when Austria co-hosted the tournament with Switzerland. Both Poland and Austria crashed out at the group stage having each failed to win any of their three games.

Poland surprised many at Euro 2016, recording two wins and a draw in the group stage to advance to the knockout rounds. The Eagles would then overcome Switzerland, on penalties, in the Round of 16 before losing out to Portugal in the quarter-finals, also in a penalty shootout.

Austria reached the knockout phase for the first time at Euro 2020, with victory over North Macedonia and Ukraine in their group. The Austrians faced Italy in the last-16 but would lose 2-1 in extra-time to the eventual champions. Poland, meanwhile, finished bottom of its group having failed to win any of three games against Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.

Poland vs Austria Head-to-Head

These nations first shared a pitch in a pair of international friendlies in 1935, with either side emerging victorious on home soil. They would meet in several more friendlies prior to the turn of the 21st century, and then faced one another in qualifiers for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Poland and Austria shared a group at the Euro 2008 finals co-hosted by the latter and they played out a 1-1 draw at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna; Ivica Vastić converted a penalty in stoppage time to rescue a point for the home side.

The teams later met in Euro 2020 qualifiers, with both of them ultimately securing a place at the showpiece event.
