Rangers have played a multitude of matches in the Champions League over the years, although the title has continued to remain just out of reach. The Light Blues’ best finish came way back in the 1959/60 edition of the European Cup, as it was known then, when they reached the semi-final. The Ibrox outfit managed to beat the likes of RSC Anderlecht, Red Star Bratislava and Sparta Rotterdam, however they fell short against Eintracht Frankfurt.

There have only been a few memorable moments in the competition for the Scottish giants, with their round of 16 finish in the 2005/06 Champions League perhaps one of the most recent ones to be thought of fondly.

Rangers FC managed to ease past Anorthosis Famagusta in the qualifying round, which led to a group with Inter Milan, FC Porto and Artmedia Bratislava. The Gers managed to finish second in the Group Stage and would then go on to meet Villarreal in the Round of 16. However, the Spaniards proved to be too much for them as they were knocked out agonizingly on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate score.
