Though the club are not among the big three in Portuguese football, interest in SC Braga UEFA Champions League tickets remains high, and if you want to find the best prices and most comprehensive selection for any games in the competition, SeatPick has you covered!
The traditional ‘Big Three’ in Portuguese football, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, and FC Porto, may get a lot of attention, but Sporting Braga have also achieved a great deal both in terms of domestic and European football, given their relative size.
Os Arcebispos (The Archbishops) will look to make a significant impact in the UEFA Champions League this season, but on the whole, they have failed to make lengthy progressions into any of the major European competitions.
The club’s first European involvement came in 1966/67 when they played in the UEFA European Cup Winners’ Cup, losing to Hungarian side Raba ETO Gyor in the Second Round.
In 1997/98, they did well to get to the Third Round of the UEFA Cup before losing to German side Schalke 2-0 on aggregate. Between 2004 and 2010 SC Braga were regular entrants to the UEFA Cup.
In 2006/07, they fell at the Round of 16 stage to Tottenham, losing 6-4 over the two legs against the Premier League side. In 2008/09, they fell at the same stage to big-spending French side PSG, this time losing out by a solitary goal on aggregate.
2010/11 saw Sporting Braga make it to the UEFA Champions League for the first time, and they did well to beat both Celtic and Sevilla to make it to the group phase. They were brought down to earth in their first outing, losing 6-0 at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.
They then lost 3-0 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk before their fortunes improved. Goals from Lima and Matheus gave them a solid 2-0 home win over Partizan Belgrade, and Moises Moura scored the winner away in Serbia.
Incredibly they made it three wins on the trot when Matheus scored twice to see Braga beat Arsenal 2-0. They lost their final game to Shakhtar and finished third in the group, a decent return from their first group phase in the competition.
They then dropped into the UEFA Europa League and beat Lech Poznan, Liverpool, Dynamo Kyiv, and Benfica to set up an all-Portuguese final against FC Porto in Dublin.
Braga were beaten by a single Radamel Falcao goal which gave Porto the win, but undoubtedly manager Domingos had achieved a great deal over the course of their European efforts in the campaign as a whole. One that saw the team play a total of 19 games.
2015/16 saw SC Braga get to the UEFA Europa League Quarter-Finals before being knocked out by Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk and in 2021/22, another run to the last eight was ended by Scottish side Rangers.
