The Who History

The Who were founded in London when founding members Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, and John Entwistle put the band together, with drummer Keith Moon joining later in 1964.

My Generation

The band released their debut album in 1965, and My Generation proved an iconic, timeless record that set the ball rolling on an incredible career.

The My Generation single reached number two in the UK charts and also saw the band start to break the United States.

A Quick One and The Who Sell Out were also successful studio albums, and singles such as Substitute, The Kids Are Alright, and I Can See for Miles saw their star rise.

Tommy

1969 proved a huge year for the band as their album Tommy, which was later turned into a musical and a feature film, sold incredibly well across the world, with Pinball Wizard and I'm Free proving very successful singles.

Later that year, The Who played at the Woodstock Festival and further increased their exposure in the United States.

Who's Next

The 1970s saw the band continue to grow musically, and albums Who's Next, Quadrophenia, The Who By Numbers, and Who Are You all sold well on both sides of the Atlantic.

That is not to say that the band did not experience tricky periods during this decade, including the unreleased album Long Live Rock.

Death of Keith Moon

The band's wild drummer Keith Moon passed away in 1978, but that did not result in the band slowing down and were still continually evolving and playing out sold-out shows and releasing albums that drew critical acclaim.

Their studio output reduced somewhat and their 2006 release, Endless Wire, was the band's first album in over twenty years and still sold incredibly well and was supported by huge tours.

New Music

In 2019, The Who released their twelfth studio album, simply entitled WHO, and it reached number two on the Billboard Album Charts, which goes some way to showing the longevity of their ever-expanding fanbase. Their new album was supported by a big tour across Europe and North America.

Accolades

The Who have sold hundreds of millions of records and were ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and have won multiple Grammy Awards and a host of other accolades and are considered pioneers of the rock and roll scene and are still a band capable of putting on a mesmerizing show, hence the huge popularity of The Who tickets.
