About VfB Stuttgart Champions League
VfB Stuttgart History in the Champions League
Stuttgart first appeared in UEFA's premier club competition in 1984 but failed to make it past the first round of the European Cup. VfB later took part in the inaugural season of the Champions League in 1992/93, having won the Bundesliga title the previous season, but once again exited at the first round with defeat to Leeds United.
The 2003/04 campaign saw Stuttgart advance to the Champions League knockouts for the first time, thanks to a second-place finish in their group. The German side ultimately lost to Chelsea, 1-0, in the Round of 16.
VfB ended bottom of their UCL group in 2007, picking up just 3 points from six games against FC Barcelona, French outfit Lyon and Scottish side Rangers. Stuttgart would progress to the last-16 in the 2009/10 season but limped to a 5-1 aggregate defeat versus Barcelona.
VfB Stuttgart's Top Achievements In the Champions League
Stuttgart have never reached the latter stages of UEFA's flagship competition, with the Round of 16 being the furthest the German club has progressed. VfB made it to the knockout stage for the first time in 2004 and repeated this feat six years later.
Having returned to the competition in 2024, Stuttgart will be determined to give their supporters something to cheer about in the Champions League.
