We The Kings History

We the Kings were formed in 2005 by childhood buddies Travis Clark, Hunter Thomsen, Drew Thomsen and Danny Duncan. They originally performed under the name Broken Image before changing their name.

In 2007, they were among the opening acts at Tourzilla, along with All Time Low and Boys Like Girls, which helped them get much-needed exposure.

Signed with S-Curve Records, We the Kings released their self-titled debut album in 2007, which was a minor hit in the US. Two years later, their second album, Smile Kid, proved a bigger success and included several strong singles, including We'll Be a Dream (featuring Demi Lovato), She Takes Me High, and Check Yes Juliet.

As a live act, the band was beginning to make waves, and every WTK concert was a sell-out ahead of the release of their third album.

In 2011, after the release of their third studio album, Sunshine State of Mind, the group were among the opening bands supporting Simple Plan and then were headlining at the Vans Warped Tour, a sign of their speedy rise to prominence.

Somewhere Somehow followed in 2013, charting in the UK and the United States and earning positive reviews. Stripped was released in 2014 but didn't perform as well as earlier albums, with Strange Love, the group's sixth album, showing a marked improvement.

Self-Titled Nostalgia (2017) and Six (2018) failed to make a significant impact, but nonetheless, the group's loyal following continued to flock to their shows.

2021's EP SAGA was something of a return to form, with songs such as These Nights, Turn it UP, and No 1 Like U being well-received by fans and critics alike.

We the Kings are quite hard to define in terms of their genre as they tend to bridge many styles, from pop-punk to alternative rock, with a little emo and power pop thrown in for good measure.
