Jimmy Eat World History

Jimmy Eat World were formed in Mesa, Arizona, in 1993 by childhood friends Jim Adkins and drummer Zach Lind. They were joined by guitarist Tom Linton and bassist Mitch Porter in the original lineup of the band.

The group released their self-titled debut album in 1994, and their opening effort did not exactly catch fire. Static Prevails (1996) and Clarity (featuring single Lucky Denver Mint) (1999) had a similar lack of genuine mainstream impact. However, the release of their fourth album, Bleed American, helped to put the American rock band firmly on the map.

By this point, Bassist Rick Burch had replaced Mitch Porter, and the group was moving in the right direction.

Its opening single, Bleed American, performed well and was followed by its iconic song, The Middle, which proved a monumental hit and, by some distance, Jimmy Eat World's most famous track. It reached number five on the US Billboard singles chart and was a hit across Europe. Other singles from the album included Sweetness and A Praise Chorus.

Their next album, 2004's Futures, was the group's biggest album to date, and in 2007, they released Chase This Light, which broke into the top five on the US Billboard Albums chart. In 2010 the band released their seventh studio album, with Invented being another solid commercial success.

Damage followed in 2013 with Integrity Blues coming out three years later. In 2019, Jimmy Eat World released their tenth studio album, with Surviving earning praise, albeit being less of a commercial success than a lot of their earlier work.

In 2022, the group released a number of non-album singles, Something Loud and Place Your Debts, which excited their fans. In 2023, they followed this up with the release of Telepath, and you can bet new material is on the way.

As a live act, Jimmy Eat World are well known for pulling out all the stops and putting on a great show, and the group's main lineup continues to entertain the masses.
