Wolves History in the League Cup

The first time Wolves took part in the English Football League Cup was during the 1966/67 season, in what was the seventh edition of the competition.

Within a few years Wolves began to emerge as contenders in this tournament, advancing to the semi-finals in 1973 before going on to clinch the title the following years. Their second success followed in the 1979/80 season, thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory in the final against Nottingham Forest.

Since then, however, Wolves have gone more than 40 years without reclaiming the trophy and have mostly struggled in coming close to doing so.

Wolves Top Achievements in the Carabao Cup

Wolves are two-time winners of the EFL Cup. The West Midlands side achieved its maiden League Cup title in 1974, beating Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

Their second triumph came six years later, as Scottish striker Andy Gray netted the only goal in a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

In more than four decades since, Wolves have failed to replicate their success in the English League Cup. The 1995/96 season saw a commendable effort, though the 'Old Gold' crashed out to eventual champions Aston Villa in the quarter-finals.
