David Gray Biography

Born in Sale in June 1968, David Gray took to music from an early age. However, his artistic path to commercial success was a relatively slow one.

White Ladder

His first album, 1993's A Century Ends and 1994's Flesh, did not make much of an impact though once signed to EMI, his next effort, Sell, Sell, Sell (1996) did make more of a dent in the charts. It was, however, the release of 1999's White Ladder that saw David Gray become a mainstream success.

The release was something of a slow burner but it went on to top of the UK charts. It sold over three million copies in the United Kingdom and over two and a half million copies in the United States.

Babylon

Successful singles from the release include This Year's Love, Babylon, Please Forgive Me and Sail Away as well as his cover of Soft Cell's Say Hello, Wave Goodbye. He is often referred to as the songwriter's songwriter and is one of those rare artists that speaks to lovers of all musical genres.
