Georgia vs Czech Republic History
The Czech Republic national team has done fairly well at the European Championship, given that the nation only made its tournament debut in 1996. Of course, whilst part of Czechoslovakia, the central European country celebrated success at Euro 1976 and claimed third place at the following edition.
The dissolution of Czechoslovakia at the end of 1992 saw it split into two sovereign states, and the Czech Republic have since produced some impressive displays at UEFA's international tournament. Appearing at the event in 1996, Czechia made it all the way to the final having beaten Portugal and France in the knockouts. Ultimately though, Germany would come out on top in the final, in front of 73,611 at Wembley Stadium.
Czech Republic would top its group at Euro 2004, with wins over Latvia, Germany and the Netherlands, before going on to edge Denmark in the quarter-finals. The Czechs, however, couldn't find a way past eventual champions Greece, losing 1-0 in the semi-finals.
At Euro 2012, Czechia reached the quarter-finals but fell to Portugal. At the belated 2020 edition, they again reached the last-8 and lost out to Denmark. Only in 2024 would Georgia finally qualify for the European Championship finals for the first time, beating Greece on penalties in the play-off finals.
