Laufey Biography

Laufey Lin Bing Jonsdottir was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, in April 1999. Her father is Icelandic, and her mother, a classically trained violinist, is Chinese. She started to learn the piano at the age of four

Her identical twin sister, Junia Lin, is also a violinist, and the family moved frequently in her early years. At the age of just 15, Laufey performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

Typical Of Me

In 2021, Laufey released her debut EP, Typical Of Me, which proved a big hit on the US Jazz charts. The singles Street by Street and Someone New were also released from it.

Everything I Know About Love

Laufey graduated from Berklee College in 2021 and in 2022, and also the same year saw her release her first studio album, Everything I Know About Love, earning plaudits from critics and being a commercial success.

She signed with global powerhouse Warner Chappell Music in 2023.

In 2023, her second album, Bewitched, was released and was a big hit on the US Billboard's alternative artist album chart. It also reached the top 20 on both the US Billboard chart and the UK Albums chart, and the lead single, From the Start, proved a massive hit.

Other songs that have helped Laufey rise to stardom are 2023's A Night to Remember, Christmas Dreaming, and Winter Wonderland.

The multi-instrumentalist cites among her early influences the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Chet Baker. Laufey has already collected a host of top awards and nominations, including picking up The Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album Award at the Grammy Awards in 2024.
