Santana History

In the late 1960s Carlos Santana formed his rock group in San Francisco and they supported major artists including The Who and Grateful Dead and released their debut album Santana in 1969. The band's classic lineup included Gregg Rolie, Michael Carabello, Neal Schon, David Brown, Jose Areas, Michael Shrieve and, of course, Carlos Santana.

The band's second album, Abraxas, was their first to top the US Billboard Album charts as did it's follow up, Santana III nd the band has enjoyed incredible success ever since. Classic singles from the group include Black Magic Woman, Evil Ways, Everybody's Everything and Oye Como Va.

The release of the band's eighteenth album, Supernatural, saw Santana once again hit heady heights, with the record selling an astonishing 30 million copies worldwide, including over 13 million copies in the United States alone.

The albums saw Carlos Santana team up with a host of artists, including Dave Matthews, Everlast, Lauryn Hill, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Eric Clapton and Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty.

The album spawned many hits including number one singles Smooth and Maria Maria and put the band back on the map and saw them back on the road playing to sell out crowds worldwide. The band's EP In Search of Mona Lisa saw the band continue their run of great releases.

The follow-up album to Supernatural, Shaman was also a big success and the band's twenty sixth album, Blessings and Miracles, came out in 2021 and was a critical and commercial success and confirmed the enduring popularity of the band.

The group's amazing live shows have led to the release of many acclaimed live albums, including the release of Santana IV: Live at the House of Blues Las Vegas, recorded at the Mandalay Bay Resort.

Santana have sold over 40 million records worldwide and won a host of accolades, including an incredibly eight Grammy Awards, all picked up in 2000, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
