Colson Baker was born in Houston, Texas, in April 1990 and became obsessed with rap from a very young age. He cites artists including Ludacris, Eminem, and DMX as early influences.

As a young child Machine Gun Kelly moved around a great deal, spending time in Germany, Chicago and Denver before settling in Cleveland.

After releasing a series of mixtapes, Machine Gun Kelly, as he came to be known, signed a deal with Bad Boy Records and released his debut album, Lace Up, in 2012, which went to number four on the US Billboard Album charts. His first charting single was Wild Boy, featuring Waka Flocka Flame.

His second album, General Admission, was released in 2015 and secured glowing reviews and did well commercially, and his third studio album, Bloom, really saw Machine Gun Kelly take a step into the mainstream.

That album included his hit single Bad Things, featuring Camila Cabello, which went five times Platinum in the US and also did well across the world.

In 2017 his Go for Broke, with James Arthur, also earned rave reviews. Another collaboration that proved a success was Machine Gun Kelly's pairing with Travis Barker on their cover of Edwyn Collins' hit A Girl Like You.

As an aspiring actor, Machine Gun Kelly was starting to score large roles, which further boosted his exposure. Chief among these was his role as Felix in Netflix's 2018 hit Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock.

Hotel Diablo, released in 2019, also charted well, and his sixth studio album, Tickets to My Downfall, marked the first time Machine Gun Kelly hit the number-one spot on the US Billboard Albums chart. And that 2020 release also sold well in the UK and across Europe.

That album included the hits Bloody Valentine, Title Track and My Ex's Best Friend.
