Neon Trees History

The Neon Trees were formed initially in 2005 in Provo, Utah, by neighbors Tyler Glenn (lead singer) and Chris Allen (lead guitar), and they were then joined by Elaine Bradley (drums) and eventually adding Branden Campbell (bass).

The group's debut EP came out the following year and attracted positive reviews and the attention of record labels. The band's debut studio album, Habits, was released in 2010 on Mercury Records and scored good reviews and broke onto the US Billboard Album charts, albeit outside the top 100.

The single Animal proved a big success, selling over two million copies in the United States, and their follow-up album helped to put the Neon Trees on the mainstream music map.

2012's Picture Show reached the top twenty in the US and earned plaudits from the music press. The lead single, Everybody Talks, reached number six on the US Billboard charts, also did well across Europe and was featured in many TV shows, including Homeland.

In 2013, they supported Taylor Swift for tour dates in New Zealand and Australia, and the group also played on America's Got Talent ahead and made various media appearances to further build the band's brand.

In 2014, the Neon Trees released their fourth album, Pop Psychology, which topped both the US Alternative chart and the US Rock charts and rose to number six on the main Billboard chart, their highest placing to date.

That release includes the popular singles Sleeping With a Friend, I Love You (But I Hate Your Friends), and Text Me in the Morning.

In 2020, I Can Feel You Forgetting Me, their fifth album, proved less of a commercial success but did earn positive reviews from music critics. In 2023, the band released two new singles, Favorite Daze and Losing My Head, and their 2024 tour supported their release.

As a live act, Neon Trees are known for putting on an awesome show, led by Tyler's voice and backed by a tight band that has now been honing their act for the better part of two decades. The group's cross-genre musical style has also helped them grow in terms of their overall popularity, with the Neon Trees traversing many styles, from pop rock to new wave, from indie rock and alternative rock to electropop.

Among the accolades the Neon Trees have accrued thus far are a Billboard Music Award for Top Alternative Song in 2011 for Animal, two BMI Pop Awards for Animal and Sleeping with a Friend, and an MTV Europe Music Award nomination for Best Push Act in 2011.
