Nickelback History

Nickelback were formed in the 1990s as a band that played covers under their previous name Village Idiot, who were made up of Michael Kroeger and his brother Chad Kroeger, their cousin Brad Kroeger and Ryan Peake.

The band originated in Hanna, Alberta, Canada, and they released their debut album Curb in May 1996, which garnered the attention of record labels, and they were signed up by EMI and Roadrunner. Their third studio album, and the first of their major label albums, was released in 2001, and Silver Side Up made a huge impact.

It topped the charts in Canada and the UK and reached number two on the US Billboard charts and has sold over ten million copies. The album included the big number-one hit single How You Remind Me, which sold four million copies in the United States alone.

In 2002 Chad Kroeger worked with Josey Scott on the soundtrack to Spider-Man, producing the song Hero, which was another release, breaking into the top ten across the world and gaining the band yet more exposure.

The Canadian rock band released The Lond Road in 2003, and that album went on to sell over five million copies and featured the singles Someday, Figured You Out and Feelin' Way Too Damn Good. In 2005 All the Right Reasons became the band's best-selling album to date. It sold almost eight million copies in the US and over 18 million records in total.

Singles Photograph, Animals, Far Away, Savin' Me and Rockstar all did well. Dark Horse (2008), Here and Now (2011), No Fixed Address (2014) and Feed the Machine (2017) all did well commercially, and the band played extensive tours to massive audiences and sold out stadiums around the world.

2022 saw the release of Nickelback's tenth studio album, and it performed well and was backed up by the band's Get Rollin Tour, which saw the band once again conquer the US and Canada with able support from opening bands fronted by Brantley Gilbert and Josh Ross. The album was led by the release of the single San Quentin in September 2022.

Nickelback are one of the most successful rock bands of all time, selling over 50 million albums worldwide. They have also received a fair amount of accolades over the course of their lengthy history and these include a host of Grammy nominations, seven Billboard Music Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards.
