Placebo History

Placebo were formed in 1994 by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal. They were joined by Steve Hewitt, Robert Schultzberg and Bill Lloyd in the band's most iconic lineup. The group was heavily influenced by David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and the Nine Inch Nails.

They released their self-titled debut album in 1994, which proved a big hit in the United Kingdom and featured a string of hit singles including Teenage Angst, Bruise Pristine and Nancy Boy. Their second studio album, Without You I'm Nothing, saw the band become a force across the world.

The record sold over a million copies and saw hits, Pure Morning, You Don't Care About Us, Every You Every Me, and the title track chart well. Black Market Music performed well on its release in 2000, as did Sleeping With Ghosts, which followed in 2003. The hit single The Bitter End proved very popular.

Meds, released in 2006, was the first Placebo album to break into the US Billboard charts, and further success in the United States followed.

Battle for the Sun (2009), which included fan favourite Ashtray Heart, and Loud Like Love (2013) both performed well commercially and critically, and in 2022 the band's eighth studio album, Never Let Me Go, saw them top the charts across Europe and reach number three on the UK charts.
