Shed Seven were formed in 1990 by frontman Rick Witter, guitarist Paul Banks, bass player Tom Gladwin, drummer Magnus Thompson and keyboardist John Leach. They went through a number of changes prior to hitting the big time and released their debut album, Change Giver, in 1994 and it proved a moderate hit and secured glowing reviews.
They rode the coattails of Britpop, and their second album, A Maximum High, proved a bigger hit and spawned a string of hit singles, including Where Have You Been Tonight?, Going for Gold, Getting Better and On Standby.
1998 saw the band release their third studio album, Let It Ride, which got into the top ten in the UK and saw a number of high-charting singles, including Chasing Rainbows, She Left Me On Friday and The Heroes.
The following year a greatest hits collection also charted well and in 2001 they released Truth Be Told, which was something of a relative commercial failure. In 2003 the band split but not before playing a triumphant final tour, selling out the Barbican Centre in their native York for an amazing show and signing off as a band for a number of years.
They came back for occasional reunion tours but didn't release a new album until 2017, when Instant Pleasures got to number eight on the UK Albums Chart. Then in 2024, their sixth studio album truly relaunched the band.
A Matter of Time secured Shed Seven their first ever UK number one album and put the band back on the map. The record secured great reviews and was a real return to form and one that has seen the band thrust back into the limelight and the band's ability to always play a great gig is par tof the reason for the huge interest in tickets to see the group back on stage.
