Ocean Colour Scene History

Ocean Colour Scene were formed in 1989 when members from two previous bands united. Guitarist Steve Craddock joined forces with vocalist Simon Fowler, bass player Damon Minchella and drummer Oscar Harrison, and a support slot on a Paul Weller Tour aided their progress.

Their debut album came out in 1992 but failed to make that much of an impact, but when they played on an Oasis tour in 1995, things started to turn around. The Riverboat Song reached number 15 on the UK Singles Chart, and The Day We Caught the Train quickly became an anthem, and they joined the Britpop Party.

Moseley Shoals, the band's second album, was released in 1996 and was a big commercial success, selling almost a million copies in the United Kingdom alone, and the follow-up, Marchin' Already, went to number one.

1999's One from the Modern and 2001's Mechanical Wonder also broke into the UK top ten, and in 2013, they released their tenth studio album, Painting, which earned strong critical reviews and was well-received by their army of followers.
