Texas 2024

In 2024 Texas will be on tour supporting their greatest hits album, The Very Best of Texas, and Sharleen Spiteri and her band will be playing across Australia and New Zealand before playing a series of dates in the UK.

Texas History

Texas were formed in 1986 in Glasgow by Sharleen Spiteri, Johnny McElhone, and Ally McErlaine. Tony McGovern, Eddie Campbell, Neil Payne, and Michael Bannister joined prior to their debut release. Their first single, I Don't Want a Lover, was a big commercial success, breaking into the UK top ten while also charting well across Europe and even making it onto the US Billboard singles chart.

In March 1989, the band's debut album, Southside, was released and went to number three on the UK charts and the same position in France and went on to sell over two million copies worldwide.

Mothers Heaven (1991) and Ricks Road (1993) also did moderately well, but Texas burst back into the mainstream with their 1997 release White On Blonde, which became the band's best-selling album to date.

The album went to number one in the UK and number two in France, where they were beginning to make a real name for themselves. The record included hit singles Say What You Want, Halo, and Black Eyed Boy.

The Hush followed in 1999 and continued their strong run of success, with the single Summer Son proving particularly popular. 2000 saw the release of Texas's first Greatest Hits album, which went on to sell impressively well, with almost two million copies sold in the UK alone.

In 2021, Texas released their tenth studio album, with Hi reaching number three in the UK and also making it onto the top ten of the French charts. There is a great deal of interest in their upcoming tour dates, not least because they performed a superb set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival in June 2023.
