Todd Harry Rundgren was born in June 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennslyvania, and he formed the rock group Nazz in 1967. The band released three albums between 1968 and 1971 and had a number of successful singles, with Open My Eyes and Hello It's Me both charting on the US Billboard Singles chart.

He released his debut solo album, Runt, in 1970, which was a moderate success. His third studio album, Something/Anything, released in 1972, was his first major success. It spawned a string of singles, including another version of Hello It's Me, I Saw the Light, and Couldn't I Just Tell You, it also includes his fan favourite Black Maria.

Utopia

In 1973, Todd Rundgren formed Utopia, with their debut album being released in 1974 and proving a big success. The band released nine studio albums, the final one coming out in 1985, and were known to be a great live group.

Successful Producer

Among his many successful stints as a music producer was with Meat Loaf, who he produced Bat Out of Hell for in 1977 (indeed, in a recent interview he stated that his production style for that record was meant to be some type of Bruce Springsteen parody, which clearly paid off), as well as Straight Up for Badfinger, War Babies for Hall & Oates and two albums for the New York Dolls.

Hermit of Mink Hollow

In 1978 Todd Rundgren released his eighth studio album, Hermit of Mink Hollow, which proved to be one of his most commercially successful releases. He has proven to be a prolific artist, evidence of which being the fact that his 2022 album, Space Force, was his 27th solo album.
