Tool History

Tool were formed in 1990 after key members Maynard James Keenan and Adam Jones met and after a couple of years of touring, they were signed by Zoo Entertainment. The band's debut EP, Opiate, was released in 1992, coming after an unofficial release the year before.

Undertow

Their debut studio album followed in 1993, with Undertow proving a success, selling over three million copies in the United States. Ænima followed in 1996 and put Tool on the map. It was the first to see bassist Justin Chancellor on board, and it went to number two on the US Billboard charts, once again selling by the million.

That album included a string of successful singles, including Stinkfist, Forty Six & 2 and H. Their next album, 2001's Lateralus, featured their classic lineup of Maynard James Keenan on vocals, Adam Jones on guitars, Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey as the band's drummer. This was the band's first US Billboard chart-topper, and five years later, they repeated the feat.

10,000 Days

Tool's fourth studio album, 10,000 Days, is arguably their best and received critical acclaim and went to number one in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Finland, Greece, New Zealand, Norway, Poland and the United States, highlighting their global appeal.

Fear Inoculum

Tool released their fifth album, Fear Inoculum, in 2019, and it once again rose to the top of the US Billboard charts, their third in succession and also performed well globally.

Tool have sold millions of records around the world and won a number of accolades to mark their achievements over the course of a very successful history to date.

Award-Winners

These include a number of Grammy Awards. The first of these came in 1998 when they won Best Metal Performance, an award they won again in 2002 and one more time in 2020. They also won for Best Recording Package for their album 10,000 Days in 2007.
