About Borussia Dortmund vs Inter Milan Tickets 2024/25

Borussia Dortmund’s magnificent support is world-renowned. The sea of neon that hits the players as they run at the magnificent Signal Iduna Park is unlike anything you’ll see at any football match in the world.

Every game at the stadium is a sell-out, which is quite incredible when you consider the capacity of the Westfalenstadion is in excess of 80,000. For scale, that’s bigger than any club stadium in the Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund have done well when they have qualified for UEFA’s top tier tournament, which they first experienced in 1956/57 when they were eliminated in the First Round of Manchester United.

The following season they got to the Quarter-Finals, and in 1963/64, it was Inter Milan that thwarted their progress in the Semi-Finals, with the Serie A side going on to win the competition that year.

Die Borussen then failed to qualify for the competition for over thirty years, during which time the likes of Bayern Munich and SV Hamburger actually won the European Cup on a number of occasions.

Under Ottmar Hitzfeld, they made a comeback in 1995/96, and the following season, they actually won the UEFA Champions League for the first time.

They did well to secure four wins from their six group games and then dealt with Auxerre in the Quarter-Finals with a minimum of fuss. The clash with Manchester United in the Semi-Finals saw the Bundesliga side put in a defensive masterclass, beating the Premier League side by a single goal in both legs.

That led them to the UEFA Champions League Final in Bern, Switzerland, where they faced a Juventus side that would go on to reach this stage for three seasons in a row. Dortmund were the underdogs, but two goals from German international striker Karl-Heinz Riedle put them in the driving seat before substitute Alessandro Del Piero halved the deficit. However, Dortmund reasserted themselves in the game when Lars Ricken scored a wonderful third to clinch the victory.

Borussia Dortmund reached the Semi-Finals the following season but then had to wait until 2012/13 to taste the experience of another final, this one coming at Wembley Stadium against old rivals Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went behind to a Mario Mandzukic effort on the hour mark, but Ilkay Gundogan converted a penalty to level less than ten minutes later. The two teams were neck and neck before Arjen Robben scored a winner after 88 minutes.

Inter Milan have won the competition on three occasions, losing out on another three final attempts.

Their first successes came at the start of a very dominant era for the Nerazzurri, where they would arguably have been the most consistent side in Europe for an extended period.

In 1964 they beat Real Madrid 3-1, and the following year, they defeated Benfica before they lost finals in 1967 to Celtic and 1972 to Ajax.

A lengthy period of relative failure followed, which was broken by Jose Mourinho’s side in 2010, who easily saw off Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Final that year, Diego Milito scoring both goals in a comfortable 2-0 win.

2023 saw the San Siro side return to the final, where they were edged out by a talented Manchester City side, Rodri’s goal separating the two sides in Istanbul.
