McFly History

Having failed with his audition to join Busted, Tom Fletcher joined forces with Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter and formed McFly in the early 2000s. their debut single, 5 Colours in Her Hair, was an immediate success, going to number one on the UK Singles Chart.

The band's debut album, Room on the 3rd Floor, sold almost a million copies in the UK alone and spawned further successful singles, including Obviously, That Girl and Room on the 3rd Floor, all of which reached the top five in the UK. In 2005, McFly released their second studio album, and Wonderland was another huge success, going to the top of the album charts and including two number-one singles with All About You and I'll Be OK.

Motion in the Ocean was released in 2006, and that led to yet more singles success, with Don't Stop Me Now, Baby's Coming Back and Star Girl going to number one. The success of the band led to hugely successful live tours, with events selling out at alarming speed.

In 2016, they decided to take a break as members sought to continue solo projects, with Tom Fletcher moving towards writing children's books, but they returned to release their sixth studio album in 2020 with Young Dumb Thrills, which was another big seller that earned critical acclaim and won over a new generation of fans.

In 2023 Power to Play was released and reached number two on the UK Albums Chart.
