Scotland vs Finland UEFA Euros Tournament Record

Scotland, as of 2023, have only qualified for the UEFA European Championships on three occasions, albeit that’s three times more than their opponents, Finland.

Andy Roxburgh was the first Tartan Army coach to take Scotland to the finals and did so for Euro 1992 and was presented with a very real group-of-death situation. They opened with a clash against reigning champions the Netherlands, and they did well to hold out for 75 minutes before future Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp scored the winner.

They then lost 2-0 to Germany before closing out their tournament with a fine 3-0 win over the CIS, with Paul McStay, Brian McClair, and Gary McAllister scoring.

Four years later, they once again made it to the finals. This time, with Craig Brown in charge, they started with a goalless draw against the Dutch before losing to hosts England at Wembley Stadium.

They closed out with a 1-0 win over Switzerland, Ally McCoist scoring the winner, and only failed to make it to the Quarter-Finals due to Holland scoring more goals.

They returned to the finals in 2020 but had their poorest tournament to date, securing just one point from their three games, albeit that draw coming against England.

Finland have only once qualified for the UEFA European Championships, and that was at Euro 2020, and they started with a bang, beating Denmark in their opening game, a match that is better remembered for the near-fatal cardiac event suffered by midfielder Christian Eriksen, who would later move to Manchester United.

They followed up that result with defeats to both Russia and Belgium and, as a result, were eliminated.

Scotland and Finland have previously met twice in the UEFA European Championship, those games coming in the qualification campaign for Euro 96.

Goals from Duncan Shearer and John Collins gave Scotland a fine 2-0 win in Helsinki, and Scott Booth netted the only goal of a 1-0 win in Glasgow.
