Napoli first qualified for the European Cup in 1987/88 but were knocked out by Real Madrid in the First Round. Three years later, they returned to the competition, and even with Diego Maradona once again on board for their second campaign, they could only manage a Second Round exit at the hands of Spartak Moscow.

A number of star players have represented both Napoli and PSG, but the two most notable to do so are South American attackers.

Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani moved to Napoli from Palermo in 2010, first via a loan move and then on a permanent basis. The rangy striker was a big success at the club, enjoying cult-like status and scoring an impressive 104 goals in 138 games over the course of his three seasons at the club.

Cavani then left Napoli to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 and once again scored goals at will. Over the course of his seven seasons at the club, he managed 200 goals in 301 games and won six Ligue 1 titles, among a host of other domestic achievements.
