A team of Napoli’s obvious standing really should have achieved more in Europe’s premier club competition because, all in all, their record in both the European Cup and the UEFA Champions League is pretty poor.

It wasn’t until 2022/23, with Napoli going on to win Serie A that season, that Gli Azzurri made it as far as the Quarter-Finals, where they were edged out by rivals AC Milan.

RC Lens are relative minnows when it comes to the UEFA Champions League, and their qualification for the 2023/24 edition of the tournament was just the third time they have done so.

In their previous campaigns, in 1998/99 and 2002/03, the Ligue 1 side failed to secure a path through their group but still managed to secure big wins over Arsenal and AC Milan in the respective seasons.
