Tom Odell Biography

Tom Odell was born in Chichester, West Sussex, in November 1990 and studied at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, and initially appeared in the band Tom & the Tides before opting to go solo.

He was initially signed by Columbia Records and his debut single, Another Love, proved a massive instant hit. The track got to the top ten of the UK singles chart and also did likewise across Europe and also secured moderate success in the United States.

In 2013, Tom Odell released his first album, Long Way Down, which went to number one on the UK Charts and, as well as securing strong commercial success, was also well received by critics. The album also included other hit singles, including Can't Pretend, Hold Me and Grow Old With Me.

Recorded simply with organically constructed songs, Tom Odell's work is something of a hypnotic kaleidoscope that takes the listener on a notable journey. That simplicity is all the more effective on stage, and that's perhaps one of the reasons why he proves so popular as a live act.

In 2014 he recorded a cover of The Beatles track Real Love, which was used to front a John Lewis Christmas advert campaign and proved to be a monumental hit. 2016 saw the release of his second album, Wrong Crowd, which once again did well.

Jubilee Road (2018), Monsters (2021) and Best Day of My Life (2022) all broke into the top ten on the UK Album charts and cemented Tom Odell's place among the biggest singer-songwriter talents to emerge from England of his generation.

In 2024 he released his sixth studio album and Black Friday reached number five on the UK Album charts and with each and every track Tom Odell continued to display his distinctive style and once again rewarded his many fans with another top release.

Among the host of awards and accolades Tom Odell has already secured thus far in a burgeoning career are winning the Songwriter of the Year prize at the Ivor Novello Awards and being nominated for the prestigious Brit Awards for British Male Solo Artist.
