Wet Leg History

Wet Leg were formed in 2019 when Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers combined forces at college in the Isle of Wight, and they were subsequently signed by Domino Records.

The pair met first as teenagers, and in their twenties, they apparently were inspired to form the group when riding on a Ferris wheel, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Chaise Longue

The band released their debut single, Chaise Longue, in June 2021 to moderate success, charting in both the UK and the US, as well as Japan.

The track was followed by Wet Dream and Too Late Now and this helped to form the basis of their self-titled debut album, which helped the band start to gain national exposure in the UK and beyond.

Debut Album

Released in April 2022, Wet Leg's first studio album shot to number one in the UK reached 14 on the US Billboard charts and scored top ten status in Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, and Ireland.

The album earned the band two Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Performance and Best Alternative Music Album.

Ur Mum

Additional tracks from the album also charted, including Ur Mum and Angelica. The album appeared on many critics lists for the albums of 2022, including in the NME, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly.

Awards and Accolades

Despite the fact that the band is in its relative infancy, Wet Leg has already accrued a bunch of awards, including the aforementioned Grammys.

They won two Brit Awards in 2023, and their debut album was nominated for the coveted Mercury Prize. Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers were also winners of the Songwriter of the Year Award at the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards.

Great Live Act

On top of their instant success on the music charts it should be noted that Wet Leg are already considered one of the most exciting live acts around. This reputation was confirmed in April 2023 when they played an astounding set at Coachella, where they were even joined by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl to the ecstatic fans who were in awe of the unlikely partnership.
