Denmark vs Norway UEFA Euros Tournament Record

As of 2023, only ten nations have ever won the UEFA European Championships, and Denmark are one of those to have pulled off this astonishing feat.

Over the course of the competition, the Danish Dynamite have regularly progressed deep into the latter stages and have achieved a great deal given the relatively small size of the country and its population.

They finished fourth in the competition in 1964, albeit the finals of the event only involved four teams, so this achievement is slightly less impressive.

In 1984, they did very well to get to the Semi-Finals of the event in France before losing to Spain on penalties in Lyon.

Denmark’s biggest achievement came in 1992 and came in a competition they didn’t even qualify for. Indeed, Richard Moller Nielsen’s side only gained entry to the finals in Sweden because Yugoslavia were disqualified due to the outbreak of war in the Balkans.

This appeared to drive Denmark to success, and they performed superbly to first secure a path out of their group ahead of both England and France. They then edged past the Netherlands in the Semi-Final, winning on penalties after a great 2-2 draw in Gothenburg.

That set up a final against Germany in a game in which they were certainly the underdogs in, but they secured a memorable win nonetheless. Goals from John Jensen and Kim Viltort saw Denmark clinch the title in truly remarkable fashion.

Euro 2020 saw another brave performance from Denmark as they battled back from an opening group game loss to Finland, a game that arguably should have been canceled or postponed due to Christian Eriksen almost dying of a cardiac event on the field of play.

They then beat Wales and the Czech Republic in the Round of 16 and Quarter-Finals, respectively, before losing to England in the Semi-Finals at Wembley Stadium.

It took 11 failed attempts and 40 years for Norway to qualify for the UEFA European Championships for the first time, and once there, they started with a bang by beating Spain in their opening game.

However, their chances of progress were dented by a defeat to Yugoslavia, and a draw from their final match against Slovenia was not enough to prolong their involvement, and they have failed to qualify for any subsequent tournament as of 2023.
