Denmark vs Portugal UEFA Euros Tournament Record
Denmark first qualified for the UEFA European Championships in 1964, when they finished fourth in a tournament of four.
They failed to qualify for any of the next four tournaments but did well at Euro 1984 in France, losing to Spain in the Semi-Finals. 1988 should have proven a more successful competition for the Danes, but they performed poorly in Germany and lost every group stage game.
Euro 1992 would prove to be their best-ever tournament, and famously, it’s a tournament they originally failed to qualify for, only making an appearance after Yugoslavia were banned from the tournament due to the start of the war in the Balkans.
They picked up a draw with England before losing to Sweden, leaving them with a must-win game against France, and they did just that with Lars Elstrup scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory in Malmo.
A brace from Henrik Larsen took their Semi-Final with the Netherlands to penalties, and of the initial ten penalty takers, only Marco van Basten missed, meaning Denmark had amazingly made it to the final, where they would face the big favourites, Germany, in Gothenburg.
Goals from John Jensen, who would go on to sign for Arsenal, and Kim Vilfort saw Denmark complete a memorable and comfortable win over Germany to take the crown.
Denmark, unsurprisingly, would find it hard to hit those heights again but did reach the Quarter-Finals of the competition in 2004, and in 2020, they went all the way to the Semi-Finals before they were beaten by England in extra-time at Wembley Stadium.
Portugal are also former winners of the UEFA European Championship and have enjoyed an even stronger level of success in the tournament.
They reached the Semi-Finals in their first-ever finals tournament, losing to France in the Semi-Final in 1984, with Michel Platini scoring a 119th-minute winner.

Their second finals fixture came in 212 when Portugal took the spoils after a thrilling five-goal bonanza. Pepe and Helder Postiga had put the Portuguese two goals up in Lviv before Nicklas Bendtner scored twice to make it 2-2. Silvestre Varela then fired home an 87th-minute winner to settle the game.
