Given that the UEFA European Championship finals come around every four years, as do the FIFA World Cup finals, the interest in tickets to see the top national teams in Europe do battle is perhaps to be expected. However, that level of interest has now reached epic proportions.
The tournament has grown from a four-team event in 1960 to the 24-team tournament that it has become, and that, of course, creates more games and more tickets; however, the supply is still way below the demand, and that demand continues to grow at quite a pace.
The argument that club football is far more popular is something of a moot point given that clearly many fans enjoy both codes of the game, and if you wanted proof to illustrate the level of interest, look no further than UEFA’s ticketing portal.
Tickets are released on a lottery-style basis, and the first tranche results in millions upon millions of applications being made. The key aspect here to note is that this happens before the draw has even been made. Yes, that’s right, millions of football fans are so ecstatic at the prospect of attending the tournament in person that they’ll do so without even knowing which two teams they may see in action.
The majority of those who apply are, of course, destined for disappointment, but at SeatPick, you can be sure of being able to access tickets for any game you wish, from the qualifiers to the UEFA European Championship Final.
Our platform is revered, and we enjoy a great reputation among football fans, that’s because we offer our users unparalleled access to tickets. Denmark have a strong record in the UEFA European Championship finals, and they finished in fourth place in their first appearance in 1964. Twenty years later, in France, they reached the Semi-Finals before losing to Spain on penalties.
At Euro 1992, they reached the pinnacle of success after making the most of being granted a place in the finals due to Yugoslavia being disqualified. At those finals in Sweden, they beat the Netherlands in the Semi-Finals before taking on big favourites Germany in the final.
In the final, Peter Schmeichel kept Germany at bay, making important early saves, before John Jensen put Denmark ahead. Their lead was doubled with 12 minutes to play when Kim Vilfort netted, and Richard Moller Nielsen’s side held on to complete a remarkable triumph in Gothenburg.
At Euro 2004, Denmark reached the Quarter-Finals, and that came after poor displays in England at Euro 96 and in Belgium and the Netherlands at Euro 2000.
Denmark went one better at Euro 2020, recovering from an opening group game loss to Finland, to manfully push onward past Wales and the Czech Republic in the knockout phase before taking on England at Wembley Stadium in the Semi-Finals.
Mikkel Damsgaard put the Danes ahead on 30 minutes before skipper Simon Kjaer scored an own goal to level matters. Harry Kane netted the winner for the Three Lions in the 104th minute, putting an end to Denmark’s impressive run.
The Czech Republic have had a decent run of form in the UEFA European Championship since securing independence.
Indeed, in their first tournament as the Czech Republic, their team, consisting of top talents including Pavel Nedved, Manchester United attacker Karel Poborsky, and Patrik Berger, ran all the way to the Euro 96 final.
There, they were unfortunate to lose to Germany, with substitute Oliver Bierhof scoring twice, including a golden goal, to give Berti Vogts’s side a 2-1 win.
At Euro 2004, the Czechs once again looked impressive on their way to the Semi-Finals, defeating the Netherlands, Germany, and Latvia in the group phase before thumping Denmark 3-0 in the Quarter-Finals.
They then surprisingly lost to Greece at the Semi-Finals stage in Porto, with Traianos Dellas scoring the only goal of the game in the 105th minute for the eventual winners.
A measure of their consistency at the tournament can be seen by the fact that in both 2012 and 2020, they reached the Quarter-Finals, and all-in-all, they have achieved a great deal in the competition.
Denmark and the Czech Republic have taken each other on in three UEFA European Championship finals matches, with the first meeting coming at Euro 2000.
On that occasion, Liverpool hero Vladimir Smicer scored twice in a 2-0 Czech Republic success in Liege, but neither side made it out of the group they shared with the Netherlands and France.
At Euro 2004, the Czechs once again overcame the Danes, winning 3-0 in the Quarter-Finals in Porto, with Milan Baros scoring twice.
Their third meeting came at the delayed Euro 2020 finals, once again at the Quarter-Final stage. On this occasion, Denmark emerged victorious thanks to goals from Thomas Delaney and Kasper Dolberg, with Patrick Schick offering the Czech Republic hope in a game they ultimately lost 2-1 in Baku.
For this competition, fans will have to spend between £25 to £845 for face-value tickets.
