The band were formed in the early 2000s with the original line up having been made up of artists from a number of groups, including The Karelia, Yummy Fur and Embryo.

Take Me Out

Franz Ferdinand's debut album was released by Domino in 2004 and raced to the top ten in the UK as well as charting well in the United States. The single Take Me Out was a big success and the group's original members included Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy and Bob Hardy with the trio practising at McCarthy's house with Paul Thomson also then joining as the band's drummer.

The also honed their act at an abandoned warehouse, named the Chateau, and arguably it's when performing live that they really hit the sweet spot.

The group's second album, You Could Have It So Much Better came out in 2005 and was a number one hit in the United Kingdom and even broke into the top ten in the United States as well as performing well across Europe.

Tonight

Franz Ferdinand's third album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, also did well commercially and cemented their standing as one of the biggest indie rock bands of the time. Right Thoughts, Right Words,Right Action followed in 2013 and the group's fifth album, Always Ascending came in 2018 and then came The Human Fear.
