Nick Cave Biography

Nick Cave was born in September 1957 in Warracknabeal, a small country town in Victoria, Australia and at the age of nine he joined the school choir before being expelled, leading to him being sent to a boarding school in Melbourne.

His first live music concert saw him mesmerized by acts like Deep Purple, Manfred Mann and Free. He formed The Birthday Party in 1973 with Mick Harvey, Phill Calvert and others. The group proved popular in Australia and across Europe.

The group disbanded a decade later, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds were formed in 1984. The band's debut album came in 1984, with From Her to Eternity proving a moderate success. The group has proven very prolific over the years, with their 1996 album Murder Ballads being a particular success both commercially and critically.

That album saw Nick Cave team up with Kylie Minogue on Where the Wild Roses Grow and PJ Harvey on Henry Lee. Into My Arms, one of Nick Cave's most well-known songs came off the back of a sting in rehab, and traumatic experiences are often a strong part of his lyric writing process, and that particular song is a fan favourite.

1997's The Boatman's Call was their first album to break into the US Billboard charts, and 2016's Skeleton Tree has achieved the biggest success in the United States to date, with the album's title track being another regular addition to the band's setlists. 2024 saw the release of their 18th studio album with Wild God, proving another big success.
