The 1897/98 season was the first which saw these clubs share a football pitch. Both teams played in the Second Division at the time.
It wasn’t until 1955 that Luton Town and Manchester United met in the English top flight for the first time. The Red Devils won home and away versus Luton, including a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford.
Under Matt Busby, the dominant Man United mostly came out on top against Luton in the 1950s. The Hatters struggled in the First Division and were ultimately relegated in 1960.
Of their 40+ meetings, the vast majority have been won by Man United. In 1985, Luton recorded only their third win in 25 clashes with the Red Devils.
