About Mavericks Playoffs Tickets 2025/26

Though the Mavericks are a relatively new addition to the NBA, joining in 1980, they have been a consistent force for much of their time in the league, with the exception of a very poor run in the 1990s.

The team's first three seasons in the NBA were less than glorious, but there then followed a five-season run of playoff excursions, first under Dick Motta and then John MacLeod.

Losing to the Lakers

They won the Midwest Division in 1986-87, and in three of the five campaigns, they were eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers, with the 1987-88 defeat coming in the Conference Finals.

The 90s proved disastrous for the team. The Mavericks went through a host of head coaches and, in 1992-93, managed just 11 regular season wins.

End of Playoff Drought

Don Nelson took over in 1998, and he took the team back to the playoffs in 2000-01, and once again, they were losing Conference Finalists in 2002-03, being ousted by the San Antonio Spurs.

Avery Johnson, who won Coach of the Year in his debut season in charge of the Mavs, lead the team to their first-ever NBA Finals, where they lost out to the Miami Heat in six games.

NBA Title Success

Rick Carlisle, Johnson's successor, got revenge by winning Dallas's first-ever NBA Championship in team history by beating the Heat in the Finals in six games, with Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki proving pivotal.

Carlisle's reign tapered off, with the Mavericks suffering five first-round playoff exits in his final eight seasons in charge.

Deeper into the Postseason

Jason Kidd saw instant success, taking Dallas to the Conference Finals, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in 2021-22.

The American Airlines Center is almost always full to the brim for any game of the season, and that makes securing tickets to see the action live and in person a very tricky proposition.
