The club was founded back in 1886, originally called Dial Square Football Club before the name was changed to Royal Arsenal just weeks later. By 1893 the club had changed its name again to Woolwich Arsenal, before "Woolwich" was dropped in 1915 and "The" followed in 1919, leaving Arsenal FC as we know it today.
