Austria vs Turkey UEFA Euros Tournament Record

Austria took 12 attempts to qualify for the finals before they finally made it to the finale of the competition at Euro 2008. On that occasion, they didn’t actually make it based on merit but merely because they were co-hosting the event with Switzerland.

At those finals, they managed just a single point from their three group games and were, therefore, eliminated. At Euro 2016, when they qualified by virtue of their performances, they once again disappointed with a one-point haul all they had to show for their efforts in France.

Euro 2020 saw Austria take it up a notch. They secured their first-ever finals wins, beating both North Macedonia and Ukraine to set up a tough Round of 16 clash with Italy.

At Euro 2008, Turkey went one step further. Wins over Switzerland and the Czech Republic meant they would get through to the Quarter-Finals, where they defeated Croatia on penalties to set up a Semi-Final with Germany.

Semih Senturk scored with four minutes left of the game to make it 2-2, only for Philipp Lahm to score in the 90th minute to give the Germans a 3-2 win in Basel.

At both Euro 2016 and Euro 2020, Turkey failed to get out of their group.

Austria vs Turkey Head-to-Head

Austria and Turkey have met in two previous UEFA European Championship campaigns, both in the qualifying stages.

The first of these came ahead of Euro 1984, with Austria beating Turkey 4-0 at home before losing away 3-1.

They met again in the qualifying for Euro 2012. Goals from Arda Turan and Gokhan Gonul gave Turkey a 2-0 win in Istanbul, and in the return fixture, the two teams played out a goalless draw in Vienna.
