As one of the most successful national teams in the world, it’s no surprise that trying to get hold of tickets to see France in action is something of a challenge. Attempting to purchase International football tickets can be a brutal experience.
Take, for instance, the way in which UEFA chooses to release tickets for major finals of the UEFA European Championships. The initial tranche of tickets is offered in a lottery-style format, where millions look to the heavens and hope they’ll get lucky, and even then, these fans are applying blind.
By this, we mean they are applying for tickets, not knowing which two teams will be playing, only being aware of what date and what city the game will take place. The next release comes once the draw is complete, but then you’ll find yourself battling a million-plus other fans, and you will more than likely come out of the process empty-handed.
You might choose to join the supporters club of your chosen nation, paying for the privilege of being a member, and even then, you have zero guarantees you’ll get any tickets. This is where SeatPick comes in.
We work with hundreds of trusted ticket reseller sites, and that means users of our platform can easily sort through tons of tickets to find those that suit their budgets and schedules. It is very easy to use, and every purchase comes with a guarantee and none of those annoying hidden fees.
France have one of the most consistent records in the UEFA European Championships, and they hosted the first edition of the tournament in 1960. However, they then remarkably failed to qualify for each of the next five tournaments.
That run came to an impressive end in 1984. France once again hosted the tournament and, therefore, did not have to qualify in order to do so, and Michel Hidalgo’s side certainly made up for those previous failures.
In the group stage, they secured wins over Denmark, Belgium, and Yugoslavia, scoring at will in the process to set up a Semi-Final against Portugal.
It took a 119th-minute winner from Michel Platini to complete a remarkable 3-2 win in Marseille, which set up a final against Spain in Paris. Goals from Platini, his ninth of the tournament, and Bruno Bellone saw France win 2-0 to win their first UEFA European Championship title.
At Euro 96, France were surprisingly beaten by the Czech Republic in the Semi-Finals at Old Trafford, but four years later, they bounced back in style.
Roger Lemerre’s side, which included the nucleus of the side that won the FIFA World Cup two years earlier, and they eased into the knockout phase despite losing to the Netherlands in their third game.
Wins over Spain and Portugal saw them through to the final, where they met Italy in Amsterdam. Marco Delvecchio scored the opener for the Italians, and it looked as if victory was heading in their direction before Arsenal hero Sylvain Wiltford scored in the fourth minute of injury time to send the game to extra time.
Then, in the 103rd minute, David Trezeguet thumped in the winner to break Italian hearts.
Euro 2004 and 2012 saw France get to the Quarter-Finals, and then in 2016, where they were once again hosts, they were well placed to pick up a third title.
They faced Portugal in the final in Paris and saw their star man Cristiano Ronaldo go off injured early on but still didn’t manage to take this advantage, and they lost the game to a superb extra-time finish from Eder.
Hungary’s form in the UEFA European Championship is patchy. In 1964, they finished in third place, and in 1972, they qualified for the four-team finals again, this time finishing fourth.
There then followed a 44-year period out of the finals, with Hungary failing to qualify for ten successive tournaments. That run came to an end at Euro 2016, where the Mighty Magyars did well to get out of their group, only to then lose 4-0 to Belgium in the Round of 16.
They got to the finals again in Euro 2020 but could only muster two points and were, therefore, eliminated in the group phase.
France and Hungary have met on a few occasions in the UEFA European Championships, with the first clash coming in the Quarter Final Play-Offs for the 1964 edition of the tournament.
Hungary triumphed 5-2 over the two legs and went on to finish third in Spain.
They met in the finals of the Euro 2020 tournament, where they were both drawn into Group F. On that occasion, Attila Fiola gave Hungary the lead in Budapest before Antoine Griezmann equalized.
France would go on to win the group, while Hungary finished bottom of the pile.
For this competition, fans will have to spend between $32 to $1,057 for face-value tickets.
