France vs Poland History
Nowadays France are among the most dominant and feared national teams in the world. but this hasn't always been the case. Les Bleus hosted the inaugural edition of the UEFA European Championship in 1960, but finished last out of four competing nations.
The French failed to qualify for any of the next five Euro tournaments before eventually returning to the finals in 1984, once again held on home soil. Inspired by Michel Platini, France made it all the way to the final and went on to capture the title for the first time. The attacking midfielder was on the scoresheet in each of his team's five games at the tournament, including six goals in the group stage as well as the winning strike against Portugal in the semi-finals.
France conquered Europe again in 2000, having narrowly lost out (on penalties) to the Czech Republic in the semi-finals four years prior. Les Bleus defeated Italy in the final at Euro 2000, thanks to David Trezeguet netting the golden goal in extra-time.
After failing to progress beyond the quarter-finals at each of the following three editions, the French hosted Euro 2016 and featured in the final once again. Despite boasting home ground advantage, and the brilliance of Antoine Griezmann, Les Bleus were unable to overcome Portugal at the Stade de France, prolonging the wait for a third European title.
On the other hand, Poland only debuted at the Euro finals in 2008 and ultimately crashed out at the group stage with just a single point from three games. Four years later Poland co-hosted the tournament but suffered another group-stage exit.
Although the bar had been set fairly low, Euro 2016 was a far more successful occasion for 'The Eagles'. Spearheaded by star striker Robert Lewandowski, Poland advanced to the knockout phase for the first time after claiming 2nd place in their group. They beat Switzerland, on penalties, in the Round of 16 but lost out to eventual champions Portugal in the quarter-finals, despite Lewandowski giving Poland an early lead at the Stade Vélodrome.

These nations had never met at the finals of the European Championship prior to the 2024 edition. However, they had previously clashed at the FIFA World Cup on more than one occasion. The first was in 1982 when the teams contested the third-place play-off, in which Poland recorded a 3-2 victory.
More recently, France faced Poland at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The two European sides crossed paths in the last-16, where Les Bleus asserted their dominance and earned a 3-1 win with Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappé (2) providing the goals.
