When thinking of the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid’s name will be one of those that is immediately associated with the competition. The Spanish side have been one of the most successful teams to have ever taken part in the club competition over the years and have gone on to produce some truly magic moments in their pursuits to win the cup. With a number of games being played at the Santiago Bernabeu each season they are in the competition, it is no surprise that the 81,044 capacity iconic stadium becomes the place to be in Madrid when they are played.

Los Blancos, as Real Madrid are known by fans all around the world, have had a history of having a number of famous stars to play in their classic white strips when in action in the tournament. Men such as Raul have been incredibly successful as he has proven to be one of the most clinical in the tournament, as has a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, whereas the Brazilian Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane are just a few others to have contributed immensely.

Real Madrid have won the Copa del Rey on no fewer than 19 different occasions, therefore winning it more than most other sides in Spain can ever account for. Los Galacticos lifted the trophy in 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908, 1917, 1934, 1936, 1946, 1947, 1961–62, 1969–70, 1973–74, 1974–75, 1979–80, 1981–82, 1988–89, 1992–93, 2010–11, and in 2013–14.

As well as winning the tournament on numerous occasions, the Spaniards have also reached the final on 20 other occasions, therefore making the showpiece at least a mammoth 39 times in their history to date.

Indeed, there are plenty of memorable moments that have happened in the Copa del Rey that have involved Real Madrid and their storied success in the competition over the years.

Moments such as their 2-1 success against fierce rivals FC Barcelona in the 2013/14 final has been fondly remembered by their fans. Goals by Angel Di Maria and Gareth Bale either side of a Marc Barta goal were enough to hand them their 19th title.

The two clubs also met in the 2010/11 Copa del Rey final (although it has been a rather common theme in plenty of previous tournaments in the past), with Real Madrid having required a Cristiano Ronaldo goal in extra-time to lift the trophy.
