The Catalonia outfit have a number of nicknames that have been created since their formation as a football club, with Periquitos, Blanquiazules and Mágico all having been commonly used to describe the side. Individuals such as Raúl Tamudo, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Argilés, Naldo, Ander Iturraspe and Javi López have all featured over the years, whilst men like Javier Clemente, Ernesto Valverde, Javier Aguirre, Pochettino and Quique Sánchez Flores have led the team as manager at one point as well.

RCD Espanyol have been crowned the Copa del Rey champions on no fewer than four different occasions, therefore winning it more than most other sides in Spain can ever claim they have. The Catalonia-based club lifted the trophy in 1928/29, 1939/40, 1999/2000 and in the 2005/06 editions of the tournament.
As well as winning the tournament on numerous occasions, the Spaniards have also reached the final on at least five other occasions, having had to settle for runners up spots in the 1910/11, 1914/15, 1940/41, 1946/47 and the 1956/57 competitions.
