About Real Sociedad Spanish Cup - Copa del Rey
Real Sociedad History in the Spanish Cup - Copa del Rey
Real Sociedad have, perhaps, been one of the unluckiest sides to have ever competed in the Copa del Rey over the years as they have lost more finals than they have won when participating in the tournament. Despite the rather poor record, fans continue to support and follow their team in droves as the 39,500 capacity Anoeta stadium fills up and becomes a cauldron of top quality atmosphere.
The Basque outfit have a number of nicknames that have been created since their formation as a football club, with Txuri-urdinak and Erreala / La Real both having been commonly used to describe the side. Individuals such as Diego Llorente, Asier Illarramendi, Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal, Adnan Januzaj and Alexander Isak have all featured over the years.
Real Sociedad's Top Achievements In the Spanish Cup - Copa del Rey
As mentioned, Real Sociedad appear to be one of the unluckiest sides to have ever competed in the Copa del Rey over history. The club have been crowned the Copa del Rey champions on no fewer than two occasions, however those victories came in the 1909 and 1986/87 campaigns.
La Real have, though, managed to reach a total of seven finals in their history but have lost at the final hurdle on five occasions. The club have been runners up in the 1910, 1913, 1928, 1951 and the 1987-88 edition of the Copa del Rey. Interestingly, or perhaps just coincidentally, the majority of those defeats came against FC Barcelona, as well.
