RC Celta de Vigo are one of the most widely-known sides to have emanated from Spain over the years because of their ability on the football pitch and their performances have been exceptional in some editions of the Copa del Rey. As the club have performed well in the division, it is hardly a surprise that their 29,000 capacity Balaídos stadium becomes extremely full when matches are played, as there is an enthusiasm that is generated around the venue for their fixtures in the tournament.

The Galician club, who have the nicknames of Célticos, Celestes and O Celtiña, have had a number of top quality players to appear for them over the years, with individuals such as Maxi Gomez, Denis Suárez, Emre Mor, Stanislav Lobotka, Santiago Cañizares, Benni McCarthy, Pablo Cavallero and so many more to have featured in domestic action.

RC Celta de Vigo have been able to boast a runners up medal on at least three occasions when it comes down to the Copa del Rey, having been beaten in the final of the 1947–48, 1993–94, 2000–01 editions of the tournament.

Considering they have been able to make three finals in their history and are not quite the side they used to be, the club’s appearances in the competition have been rather solid at times, as they continue to pose a challenge. The Galicia-based outfit have managed to reach the Round of 16 stage of the Copa del Rey on numerous occasions.

Indeed, RC Celta de Vigo have also been able to go a lot further as well, as they have managed to reach the semi-finals in recent editions of the Copa del Rey. The club reached back to back Last Four matches in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 editions of the competition, therefore providing fans with some of their most memorable accomplishments in recent memory.

The club beat the likes of Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the 2015/16 tournament, whilst they also beat Real Madrid across two legs in the following campaign, before being beaten by Deportivo Alaves in the semi-final.

There have been some poor performances, though, over the years as RC Celta de Vigo have gone out in the 2nd round on the odd occasion in recent years, with a shock defeat to Alcorcon after extra-time in the 2010/11 edition of the Copa del Rey standing out.
