CD Leganes certainly are not one of the biggest sides in Spanish football, however they have been full of surprises over the years when they have participated in editions of the Copa del Rey. As mentioned, CD Leganes do not have the best record in the competition, having only reached the semi-final of the competition on just one occasion in their history prior to the 2020/21 campaign.

CD Leganes would then reach the Round of 16 in the following two editions of the Copa del Rey, signifying the improvements they have looked to make off the back of their success in the 17/18 competition.
