Bologna F.C. 1909 have a history with the Coppa Italia competition, although their recent performances have seen the side become real outsiders in recent editions. The club has numerous nicknames that they go by, with I Rossoblù, I Veltri, I Felsinei and I Petroniani all having been commonly used over the years. Of course, with a club of their magnitude, they have had a number of top players turn out in their colours over the years in the Coppa Italia, with men such as Gary Medel, Nicolás Domínguez, Andreas Skov Olsen and Rodrigo Palacio all make several appearances.

Bologna F.C. 1909 have been rather successful when it comes to the Coppa Italia tournament, as they have been able to lay claim to two title wins over the years. Those victories came in the 1969–70 and the 1973–74 editions of the competition.
Petroniani regularly appear to enjoy themselves when they take part in the Coppa Italia, as well. The club make the latter rounds of the first stage, whilst they also have managed to qualify for the final stages of the competition where they go up against some of the bigger clubs in the country for domestic honours.
